Periodic information


Accredited rail transport operators are required to provide certain periodic information to the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator (ONRSR).

The required information includes the following:

Periodic Information, Monthly Return

Monthly returns provide information on the length of track under effective control and management, train kilometres travelled, passenger train journeys undertaken and drug & alcohol testing undertaken during the period. Returns must be provided using the prescribed form and a separate return must be supplied for each state / territory of operation. Completed forms must be provided to the ONRSR by the 21st day of the month following the reported month.

Periodic Information, Annual Return (forecast activities)

Annual returns provide estimates of the numbers of employees engaged in rail safety work, the length of track under effective control and management, train kilometres to be travelled and passenger train journeys to be undertaken during the financial year. Returns must be provided using the prescribed form. All information must be supplied to the ONRSR by the 29th of July in the financial year to which it relates.
