About the opportunity

The Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator (ONRSR) is looking for an experienced Senior Business Intelligence Analyst to drive and enable our Safety Insights and Regulatory Intelligence capability through the design, development and maintenance of high-quality reporting. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Advanced Analytics and Insights in this newly formed role, you will be a key contributor to a refined, strategic operating model where transforming data into meaningful dashboards and visual analytics products will play an integral role in supporting regulatory decision-making.

Collaborating with stakeholders across the organisation, you will elicit business requirements to effectively translate them into clear, reliable and decision-ready information for executives, regulators and operational teams. Your passion for meaningful data insights will drive you to create trusted, consistent and accessible business intelligence products that will assist in risk-based regulatory planning, monitoring of safety performance and regulatory outcomes, as well as the transparency and defensibility of regulatory decisions.

About you - your impact and contribution

We are seeking a motivated, diligent and customer service-oriented Analyst. To be successful in the role, you will be a proactive team player, collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders, who is driven by producing meaningful business intelligence services and outcomes. You will have proven experience in designing, developing and maintaining dashboards, reports and visualisations that provide deducible insights for their intended audiences. Your deep technical expertise will support the application of best practice data visualisation, presenting complex information clearly and accurately.

As the Senior Business Intelligence Analyst, interpersonal skills are essential, leveraging expert communication skills, rapport and relationship-building as well as coaching skills to support the seamless integration of data services across the organisation as well as data literacy uplift.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Demonstrated statistical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, including a proven ability to translate complex data into recommendations and commentary to inform decision making.
  • Proven experience in defining semantic layers, metrics, dimensions and business rules.
  • Certification in Microsoft Power BI, MS Fabric or other relevant BI certifications.
  • Proficiency in SQL and working with structured data models in data warehouses.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, demonstrating the capacity to effectively connect and communicate with a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and growth, including own professional development as well as the ability to coach and support other team members.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality and integrity.
  • A collaborative mindset paired with the ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in understanding and applying data governance principles, including data standards, metadata, lineage and stewardship.
  • Experience working with sensitive or regulated data, including ensuring its integrity and appropriate use.

Salary: $135,192 – $164,534 + 12% super
