A dedicated ONRSR project team has been busy upgrading the National Level Crossing Portal (NLXP) website in line with the directions set out in the National Level Crossing Safety Committee’s (NLCSC) National Level Crossing Safety Strategy.

The NLXP provides access to a national set of level crossing occurrence and other characteristic data. It can be used to enable analysis, research, planning and investment activities for the management of risks to safety.

The NLXP was initially developed by ONRSR in 2022, in consultation with the NLCSC. The Australian Government provided funding under the $180.1 million Regional Australia Level Crossing Safety Program for 2023/24 and 2025/26 to improve the NLXP in line with the expectations set out in the strategy.

The new site officially launches on 26 May and in response to user feedback and a review of functionality and content will feature:

  • improvements to the overall dataset including data quality monitoring tools and standards
  • new look and feel across the site, including an updated colour template, new logo and more consistent visual design.
  • an updated Business Glossary, FAQs and supporting content to improve clarity, consistency and usability.
  • a revised User Guide to reflect the latest portal and dashboard changes, including step-by-step guidance for registration, portal access and navigation.
  • a new User Management functionality, allowing authorised organisation contacts to manage staff access, including adding or removing users and improved visibility of active users. This will enable organisations to view users linked to their organisation and better manage portal access.

To support users through the transition to the upgraded NLXP, a series of webinar sessions will be scheduled following the release.

These sessions will provide an overview of the new features, demonstrate key functionality, and offer an opportunity to ask questions and receive guidance.
